Eighty-five years ago, on May 8, 1923, eight visionary women established our local membership association.
Throughout the years, YWCA Northern Rhode Island has never shied away from leading social change - from our earliest days providing job training and emergency food and shelter for women working in the mills of Woonsocket, to our current successful efforts to provide educational opportunities and support for teen mothers.
On behalf of YWCA Northern Rhode Island, I applaud all of the amazing women honored as Women of Achievement for they too are leading social change - leading the way for women's economic empowerment, quality health care, affordable day care, social services, youth leadership, challenging the power structure, and advocating for peace, freedom, justice and dignity for all people.
Their efforts on behalf of women and girls help us look to the future with a sense of hope, confidence, and adventure. Congratulations!
Very truly yours,
Deborah L. Perry
