smile.gifThis edition of She Shines features the work of Providence artist, Cheryl Kirk Noll. She is an award winning illustrator of over 25 books for children. She has contributed to numerous reading series, including programs for Scholastic and Houghton-Mifflin, and works for magazines such as Highlights for Children and Calliope.

She specializes in multicultural and historic subject matter, and has researched and illustrated stories about subjects as varied as Hmong weddings, American immigrants and micro lending in Bangladesh. 

With degrees in both education and illustration, Noll currently teaches and advises for the Children’s Book Illustration certificate program at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Cover artist Cheryl Kirk Noll illustrated the children’s book, “A Basket of Bangles: How a Business Begins.” The story explains how five women in Bangladesh take out micro loans to start small businesses. Her detailed watercolors display the village setting, the work, and the problems the women must overcome. It received the Skipping Stone Honor Award for Multicultural and International Books.
